Dane is a 1990 graduate of the Fischer School of Accounting at the University of Florida, with post-graduate studies at Nova Southeastern University in Miami, Fl. Dane’s professional specialties are in Auditing, M&A Structuring & Negotiation, Valuation, and Forensic Accounting. Prior to merging his practice with Bassett & Byers, CPAs, P.A. in 2011, Dane was the Partner-in-Charge of the Raleigh office of Nelson & Company, P.A., a top-15 Triangle CPA firm according to the Triangle Business Journal. Dane joined Nelson & Company, P.A. in 1993 and was a partner in the firm from 1997 until his merger with Bassett & Associates, P.A. in January 2011.

Dane has served on many local non-profit boards as a board member and has served as executive chairman for many non-profits, including Carolina Arts Festival, Gov. Beverly Perdue’s NC Serves Commission, Sales & Marketing Executives of Durham, The Carolina Theatre of Durham, and The Durham Symphony, among others. Dane has written and teaches valuation business cases at INSEAD University - Singapore, the UNC - Chapel Hill Executive MBA program, The Robert H. Smith MBA School at the University of Maryland, the Duke University Certificate in Non-profit Management, and at UC - San Diego, both undergraduate and graduate MBA schools. Dane is also a recipient of the coveted Triangle Business Journal’s 40-under-40 Annual Leadership Award. Dane is also a licensed commercial real estate broker, NC Lic. # 259606.
